Under Resolution No. 229 recently issued by the Government, Vietnam will implement a visa exemption program to boost tourism development for citizens of 12 countries, effective from August 15, 2025.
From August 15, 2025, Vietnam will grant visa exemptions to citizens of 12 countries for tourism purposes.
Specifically, citizens of the following countries will be exempt from visa requirements: the Kingdom of Belgium, the Republic of Bulgaria, the Republic of Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Republic of Poland, Romania, the Slovak Republic, the Republic of Slovenia, and the Swiss Confederation.
The visa exemption allows a temporary stay of 45 days from the date of entry for tourism purposes, applicable to all passport types, provided that the entry conditions stipulated by Vietnamese law are met.
This visa exemption policy for citizens of the aforementioned countries will be in effect from August 15, 2025, until August 14, 2028, as part of the tourism promotion program.
Previously, the Government issued Decree No. 221, which outlines a temporary visa exemption for foreigners belonging to specific groups requiring preferential treatment to support socio-economic development, effective from August 15, 2025.
Regarding the beneficiaries of the visa exemption, Decree No. 221 specifies that they include guests invited by Party and State leaders; guests invited by provincial Party secretaries, city Party secretaries, chairpersons of People’s Councils, or chairpersons of People’s Committees of provinces and cities.
Additionally, the decree covers scholars, experts, scientists, university professors, researchers at institutes, chief engineers, and high-quality digital technology industry professionals. Investors, leaders of global corporations, and heads of major enterprises; individuals active in culture, arts, sports, and tourism with a positive public influence; and honorary consuls of Vietnam abroad are also eligible for visa exemptions.
Furthermore, guests invited by research institutes, universities, or large enterprises are included. Based on proposals from ministries, ministerial-level agencies, or Government-affiliated agencies, the Government will determine the list of research institutes, universities, and large enterprises eligible to invite foreigners.
Other cases requiring visa exemptions for diplomatic purposes or to support socio-economic development will be decided by the Minister of Public Security based on proposals from relevant agencies and organizations.
